Liverpool have completed the signing of 20 year old Stade Rennais center back Jeremy Jacquet. The talented young Frenchman will join Liverpool in June at the beginning of the summer transfer window.
After it came out that Bayern Munich had dropped out of the race for Jacquet, it was reportedly a race between Liverpool and Chelsea to complete the deal with Rennes. It was £55 million plus £5 million in add-ons from Liverpool that got the deal done, and Jacquet will be a Liverpool player.
Considered one of the premier young defensive talents in the game today, Jacquet joins an impressive nucleus of young talent that is being assembled at Liverpool. This season, Jacquet has so far appeared for Rennes in 19 matches (18 in Ligue 1 and 1 in the Coupe de France).
A first team regular despite only being 20 years old, Jacquet ranks in the top 5% of defenders in Europe’s top 5 leagues in interceptions per game (1.69). Jacquet also boasts impressive tackle numbers, averaging 1.95 tackles per 90 minutes. He has won 75.5% of his aerial duels this season. He also is impressive on the ball, with a passing accuracy of 91.1% in this campaign.
Liverpool have plenty to look forward to in Jacquet, who is a signing for both the present and the future. He will look to make an immediate impact in the 2026/27 season when he arrives to Anfield.
